Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups Air Quality Index Levels in the East and California

Sat, 25 Apr 2009 07:45:01 EDT
In the East, a ridge of high pressure will limit vertical mixing in the atmosphere and produce mostly sunny skies and above-normal surface temperatures, enhancing ground-level ozone formation. In addition, southwesterly winds ahead of an approaching cold front will bring moisture and pollutants into the region, aiding particle formation. These conditions will lead to widespread Moderate AQI levels across the East, with portions of North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Vermont reaching Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups AQI levels. In the West, generally light winds in California will limit pollutant dispersion, and mostly sunny skies and warm temperatures will enhance ozone formation. As a result, Moderate AQI levels are expected throughout the state, with AQI levels in Bakersfield, CA, forecast to be Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups on Sunday. Details...

In the South, Midwest, and East, mostly sunny skies and warm temperatures will enhance ozone formation. Some parts of Texas are expected to see Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups AQI levels on Monday. Major metropolitan areas, such as Chicago, Philadelphia, and Washington D.C. will see Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups AQI levels. Details...
